This Wednesday’s on Wax is featuring an exclusive mix from our two befriended DJ’s from Berlin: Prismode and Solvane.
Solvane and Prismode are residents at the Ritter Butzke Club in Berlin and managers of the Ritter Butze label. Keeping their style versatile and emotional allowed them to play the bigger stages around the globe. From Burning Man festival to Fusion and in all European capitals like London, Paris, Istanbul and Amsterdam.
You are both individually established names in the techno scene, yet we do see you perform mostly together. Can you please tell us more about how this connection developed over the years?
Prismode: We both have a DJ history in Berlin and we were independently active in other music projects. When we developed our current projects, we were already close friends, but it wasn't really foreseeable that it would develop into such a solid collaboration. It's really great that it turned out this way because I really appreciate the time we spent together and I'm still grateful for every gig we get to play together. These are the best ones!
For years, the chemistry between you guys has been very successful. What is it that makes up for this?
Solvane: The base for us is the close friendship we share! Of cause, it is business we're doing together but the fun is the most important thing of it. I would immediately stop doing music if I'd lose the fun. And when I'm with Prismode I'm always having more fun. I guess friendship is the key to our success. We have quite a different temper and backgrounds on how and where we grew up. But maybe that's the reason why it's not getting boring for us.
“Back in the days I could recover from the weekend on the weekdays, but now I sometimes have the feeling that I need to recover on the weekend from my busy weekdays.”
You both started this career path in your teen years and now have families. Is it becoming more challenging over the years to live both in the night and day life?
Prismode: Yes, it is really a challenge to manage all these issues in parallel. But I definitely don't want to miss any part of it.
Solvane: Back in the days I could recover from the weekend on the weekdays, but now I sometimes have the feeling that I need to recover on the weekend from my busy weekdays. To be honest, it is challenging and it's sometimes impossible to fulfill all the expectations from your Business partner, your friends and your family. But beside that struggle I'm still super happy to have both in my life. The daytime and the nighttime!
“When they offered me the show I was quite shocked when they told me that they have more than 60.000 listeners per hour.”
Solvane, beside being a DJ, you are running a radio show “RADIO BUTZKE” on berlin based station “Fritz”. Can you please tell us a bit more about that?
Solvane: I'm organizing and hosting this weekly show since 2018 already on Fritz – a berlin based radio station belonging to the famous ARD network. When they offered me the show I was quite shocked when they told me that they have more than 60.000 listeners per hour. I wanted to say no but I'm quite happy that I said yes. It's huge fun to talk each week with different guests from the nightlife scene. I had Modeselektor, Boys Noize, Oliver Koletzki, Andhim, Henrik Schwarz just to name a few...
Prismode, you are managing the Ritter Butzke record label, you are the booker of the Ritter Butzke club, travel the world to perform as a DJ and have a family. How many hours are in your day?!
Prismode: hahaha, too little! I can be a part of so many different projects only because I’m part of a very good team. We work on the label as a team and I also like to put my ideas into it. As label manager, David always has the last word. We live this clear structure and thus we often manage to avoid many lengthy discussions.
You have been Brixton ambassadors for a long time already. And we're very happy about that. How does 'Done Proper' tie back to you guys' work and what does it mean to you?
Prismode: 'Done Proper' is a very important philosophy and attitude for me. To be able to work on so many projects in parallel, I have to be able to rely on myself and my immediate environment, so my tasks literally have to be done properly. This applies to both my private and professional life, otherwise I would not make any progress. That is why I am very happy to be part of the Brixton family and to have like-minded people who share these common values. Thank you for your continuous support and your collections that regularly inspire me to new fashion ideas and make me feel very good on and off stage.
Solvane: Absolutely. I can't ad a lot to these perfect words from Prismode. I'm super proud and happy to be part of the Brixton family.
