Anders SCRMN Meisner, life of an artist
Anders 'SCRMN' Meisner is a Danish artist and long-time Brixton brand ambassador. We’ve had the pleasure to talk with Anders about his life as an artist and understand the deeper meaning of what it takes to be an artist for life.
The story of Anders SCRMN Meisner
When I ventured into art it was a very playful thing at the beginning.
Everything I enjoyed in life was somehow creative.
What I enjoy most is the process of painting. It’s a great meditation on an actual subject.
You can lose yourself in it, disappear from time and space and just be in the process of creating.
Painting is my real addiction, it’s what I want to do.
When I go to bed, I think about what I’m going to create the next day.
There’s only a limited amount of work that you can create.
I find that terrifying. You paint up against the feeling like there’s an end to it.
Being an artist is like a marathon. You’re not supposed to stop. It’s something you are going to go through your entire life. You’re going through all these changes both in your personal life, your career and with you art. All these things change, but the act of creation is the only stable thing in your career.
I like to create from the bottom up. I stretch my own canvasses, mix my own paints. I’m very specific about the tools I use. I think the joy and reward of being an artist is in the process.
Basically, art follows my interest. And then it sort of develops over time. I’m really into landscapes and nature. I’m into how nature is perceived and available for different people.
Nature has become such a scarce resource and is so minimal, it’s actually only accessible to a very few people.
As an artist, you put a lot of energy into an object. This goes for all art: When that piece of art is out in the world without you, that energy is going to project onto somebody who looks at it and enjoys it or gets something from it. That’s where the real value of art comes from.
I don’t think it can be thought to put energy into things. I think it can be experienced through practice. When you are a young artist, you should just play around and try as many things as possible creatively. There’s nothing to be afraid of.
