Brixton x Hyo Isak
Rooted in the balance between art and design, this collaboration with Hyo Isak — an artist and fashion designer from Manchester, U.K. — tells a story of heritage, emotion, and reinterpretation. Each piece captures the tension between structure and soul — a dialogue between fashion and fine art. It’s a study in duality, brought to life through Brixton’s timeless foundation and Hyo’s fearless creative perspective.

Where does your inspiration for art come from?
People often ask, where does your inspiration come from? The truth is it's really one simple answer, a feeling I need to capture. But more often, I find it in the quiet echoes of my past with a nine year old boy who first arrived into The UK searching for a place to fit in. That journey, a constant clash of cultures is the fuel to my work.
What message do you want to bring across with your art?
My art is often dedicated to the tapestry of the human experience, a complex space where we live and feel. It's an interpretation of internal life and the moment where we can be both abstract and raw, showing one feeling while simultaneously wrestling with another. I try to capture that truth, the vibrance, the chaos, the beauty of human beings. I'm a product of two worlds, from Congo, but also from The UK. My education isn't limited to a simple discipline.
What inspired your approach to the Brixton project, and how did it allow you to explore the intersection of art and design?
I'm a student of art, but also a student of fashion. I'm a student of Francis Bacon, Kandisky, but also Rembrandt and Goya. I've always believed that art is synonymous with design, yet we constantly pull them apart, treating them as two different mediums. In my work, I strive to incorporate both. With this project for Brixton, it was a remarkable opportunity.
It allowed me to take their foundation and use it for reinterpretation. It's become a perfect stage to showcase my understanding of design and art working through partnership, speaking with one single voice.
